Business Loan Connection: Serving Oswego County Small Businesses
Oswego County is a beautiful place, nestled against Lake Ontario’s southeastern shore, and north of Onondaga County. Though technically part of the Syracuse metro area, according to the United States Census Bureau, Oswego County blends the best of both worlds. Its 120,000 residents are close enough to the big city to take advantage of cultural activities, yet removed enough from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the tranquility only small towns can provide. While farming is still a big part of the community, around 2,100 businesses have set up shop in the county, providing products, services, and jobs. Nearly 5,500 people have also established sole-proprietorships, or non-employee businesses, and are boosting the local economy. The credit union partners of Business Loan Connection are honored to support both types of small businesses, and provide a wide array of funding and credit line options to suit the unique needs of our region’s entrepreneurs.
The City of Oswego
Oswego County only has two cities. Fulton is the smaller of the two, with just under 12,000 residents. However, the namesake city, which is also the county seat, has a population of more than 18,000. There is also a town of about 8,000 just outside the city, which shares the name as well. It’s known as one of the snowiest places in the entire country, with more than 25 feet falling over the course of some winters. Those who know the area well have learned how to thrive, and take advantage of it by ice fishing, snowmobiling, and ice climbing. It’s also an area that’s rich in history. Visitors enjoy Fort Ontario, the H. Lee White Marine Museum, the Richardson-Bates House, and the Oswego Theater. The State University of New York at Oswego campus is also within the city limits, and has around 8,000 students.
Very few of the outlying areas in Oswego County have more than 5,000 people. A few of the larger ones, like Hastings, Schroeppel, Scriba, and Granby, round out the southeast corner of the county. Residents in these areas are able to take advantage of the businesses and amenities that surround the university.
Business Loan Connection serves small-business owners in these areas, as well as all the smaller communities throughout the entire county. By providing funding, loans, and lines of credit to help small businesses grow, the whole community benefits.
